Should You Have Rigid Metal or Alumaflex Ductwork Installed in Your Home?

Choosing between rigid metal ductwork and Alumaflex ductwork requires some analysis. Many people love the stability and generous airflow that comes with traditional rigid square ductwork. They get similar benefits from the rigid ductwork that comes in round lengths. It is important to note that Alumaflex ductwork only comes in round lengths. It is affordable compared to rigid ductwork. It is almost always faster to install as well. Both types of ductwork can be prone to certain types of damage as they age. Compare the details here to find out which type will work best in your house.

Square Ductwork With Overhead Vents

People who feel most comfortable in homes ventilated with overhead vents and dropped ceilings will usually install square rigid ductwork. Note that you must install a dropped ceiling with this type of ductwork. You’ll have to remove the ceiling whenever the ductwork has to be replaced. This is the type of ductwork that is famous for providing the most air throughout the ventilation system. People like how much easier this type of ductwork is to clean compared to other types.

Round Rigid Metal Ductwork

Rigid ductwork can also come in round sections. The round type can be purchased without insulation. Note that it uses different seam attachments than the square type. It is often a little bit faster to install than the square variety.

Beware of Rust

Rust is a common problem as rigid metal ducts age. If your house has humidity issues, you may want to consider Alumaflex ductwork.

Flexible Ductwork: Faster and Cheaper

Alumaflex ductwork comes in long lengths that require a support at each 90-degree angle. Installing Alumaflex ductwork is almost always faster anyways. It doesn’t have the same rust problems as rigid ductwork. You’ll need to have a meticulous technician install it to make sure it is not loose. It generally requires more frequent cleaning than rigid ductwork does.
